Here, Mietta chats with CHUCHKA on what it's like living in the Big Smoke, what she misses the most about Australia, her go-to self-care practices, must-have carry essentials, and advice for young aspiring women chasing their creative dreams in a new city. 

Meet Mietta Gornall... 

How long have you been living in New York and what made you decide to move there?

I moved here just over 4 years ago to further my career as a dancer.

Where in Australia did you grow up?

Port Douglas, Cairns, then Melbourne when I was 13.

What's a "typical day in the life" for you as an Aussie model in NY?

When I’m not on a job/shoot, I start my day with a ballet class at The Met Opera (one of my highlights of living in NYC is working with this company), then usually bop around to a few castings/auditions, yoga or pilates then catch up with friends.

What's your favourite thing about living in New York and some of your fave hangouts?

All the amazing opportunities here, the concerts/events/Broadway shows, wandering around the West Village, people watching in Washington Square Park, bike riding around Central Park.

What do you miss most about home/Australia?

My family and the beach!

How would you describe your off-duty style?

Usually active wear as I’m constantly running from one workout class to another.

What are the 5 must have carry items in your bag when running around the city?

Water Bottle, Paw paw ointment, Phone, Headphones, Cap.

What are some of your daily self care practices to stay centred in a busy city like NY?

Meditation - I try to do 20 mins morning and afternoon. I also like journaling if I have spare time.

What 5 items do you always travel with in your carry-on?

Laptop, Passport, Eye mask, Snacks, Phone Charger.

What are your fave 5 items from the current CHUCHKA range and why?

#5 Pana Hat - I spend a lot of time surfing in full sun so whenever possible, I try to wear a hat to keep my face protected from even more sun.

What advice do you have to young women who want to pursue their passions and creative dreams in the Big City?

Do it! Save up as much money as you can before leaving Aus, then once you’re here, say yes to as many invitations as possible so you can meet loads of people and experience everything this incredible city has to offer.
